A look at my very rough step by step process
A rough painted sketch and sky wash
Doing a rough wash of colours and tones to fill in blank space
Midway, doing elements piece by piece. Working on each element at a time
I have been privileged to grow up surrounded by nature all my life. Being raised in one of the most picturesque places in the world has been one of the largest inspirations for me wanting to paint. I grew up in Deep Cove, Vancouver under the mountains, and surrounded by lush forests. To me, there's a certain feeling I get when I look across the water towards these mountains... I feel inspired to create. No matter the time of day, season, or my mood, this view makes me feel content, and understood. It's one place in the world I feel I truly belong, surrounded by mountains. There is an eerie quiet to the mountains of Deep Cove, especially on a typical rainy and misty day. But these are the days with the most inspiration; the misty days make me appreciate the textures and shadows of the mountains even greater than on a sunny day. I have yet to try painting this view en plein air, but I probably will when the weather is a little more fair in spring.
